Moldovan president meets Hungarian parliament speaker
Acting President and Parliament Speaker Mihai Ghimpu had a meeting with the speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, Pal Schmitt, in Budapest on 21 July. The sides focused on the development of the Moldovan-Hungarian dialogue and the consolidation of bilateral relations, the parliament's media relations department has said.
Mihai Ghimpu thanked his counterpart for bilateral and international support, including for the implementation of the Twinning Project, which provides for assistance for the Moldovan parliament. He also expressed gratitude for Hungary's contribution to the launch of the Single EU Visa Issuing Centre in Chisinau, which was joined by 13 countries.
Referring to bilateral relations, Pal Schmitt said that Moldova could further rely on Hungary's support for the preparation for European integration, giving assurances that the Moldovan-Hungarian relations would become more dynamic.
At the end of the meeting, the officials exchanged opinions about the social-political and economic situation in both countries. Mihai Ghimpu encouraged Hungarian businessmen to invest in the Moldovan economy, given the investment-friendly geographical position and economic legislation there.
Subsequently, Ghimpu had a working dinner with the friendship group of the National Assembly of Hungary. After the dinner, the president talked to a group of Moldovan citizens residing in Budapest at the Moldovan embassy in Hungary.
