Moldovan premier, NATO's senior official discuss security, defense
Moldova relies on NATO's increasing support for the implementation of reforms in the security and defence sector, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said at a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary-General Claudio Bisongiero held in Brussels on Sept. 30. The government's press release forwarded to Infotag quoted Filat as saying that Moldova's interest in developing practical cooperation with the alliance in line with the Moldova-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan. Bisongiero expressed his organization's respect for Moldova's policy of neutrality and spoke in favour of withdrawing foreign weapons and troops from Moldova.
He highly appreciated the participation of five Moldovan aircrafts in humanitarian missions in Afghanistan under the UN aegis and noted that this was Moldova's valuable contribution to the consolidation of international stability and security. During meetings with representatives of the European Commission, Filat was told that EU institutions were ready to give Moldova financial assistance.
