Moldovan policemen involved in violent reprisals against protesters to resign
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat has asked Interior Minister Victor Catan to temporarily relieve of their duties the policemen who are suspected of having participated in violent reprisals against protesters on 7 April 2009, the government's press service has said.
Filat asked all employees of the Interior Ministry who know that they committed acts of violence against participants in the 7 April riots or are suspected of this to make a moral gesture and to temporarily resign during the period of investigation into the riots case.
The prime ministers asked the prosecution to treat the evidence that have been recently made public with high responsibility and to take the necessary legal measures so that those involved do not hinder the investigation or try to avoid investigation procedures.
Vlad Filat repeatedly asked all the institutions involved in the investigation of 7 April events to take all the possible efforts so that Moldovan citizens find out who should be held responsible for the violent repression of the protests as soon as possible.
