Moldovan PM meets EU, US ambassadors
Prime Minister Vlad Filat today had a meeting with the ambassadors of EU states and the USA accredited in Moldova, the government's press service has said.
The sides discussed the internal situation in Moldova, the government's objectives and the latest political events.
Vlad Filat informed the ambassadors about the ruling alliance's decision to amend the constitution via a referendum, stressing that this decision was a compromise one.
The premier emphasized that the draft constitutional amendments, as well as the eventual changes to the election legislation will be compulsorily consulted with the Venice Commission.
"We will consistently go the way of achieving the goals which we have set - ensuring a state based on the rule of law in Moldova, continuing the European integration course, promoting reforms, etc." Vlad Filat said.
The prime minister said that it would be impossible to meet these goals without support from external partners, on which Moldova further relies.
"We have to cover rather uneasy stages to achieve the set aims. But we will advance to this end only if we have your support," the prime minister said.
Vlad Filat expressed confidence that this meeting is just a beginning of subsequent permanent discussions with the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau.
"I urge you to be with us and help us successfully complete the process in which we engaged, no matter how complicated and sometimes incomprehensible it may be," the prime minister said.
The ambassadors said that they positively appreciate the prime minister's openness and willingness to discuss the latest events in Moldova, noting that such a meeting was necessary.
The diplomats said that, regardless of what decision the Moldovan authorities may take, it should be grounded and be based on legal norms.
