Moldovan parliament sets up Permanent Bureau
The parliament set up the Permanent Bureau. The body will have 13 members, although initially the MPs had voted a draft providing for 12 members.
Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu said that the Permanent Bureau should have 12 members: three on behalf of the Party of Communists (PCRM), three on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), one on behalf of the Liberal Party (PL) and one on behalf of the Democratic Party (PD), as well as a deputy chairman from each parliamentary faction.
Yet, the PCRM showed discontent with this proposal. The Communist faction's leader, Maria Postoico, said that the Permanent Bureau should have 13 members, in order to avoid any divergence in the voting procedure.
After a short break, Marian Lupu announced that the Permanent Bureau will have 13 members.
The Party of Communist had nominated Iurie Muntean, Maria Postoico, Irina Vlah and Vladimir Vitiuc. The fifth Communist member will be nominated ex officio.
The PLDM representatives in the Permanent Bureau are Mihai Godea, Valeriu Strelet and Ion Balan. The PD will be represented by the faction's chairman, Dumitru Diacov. The Liberal Party showed discontent with this distribution and demanded a break for consultations. After the break, the PL announced that the party had nominated Ion Hadirca.
The Parliament's Permanent Bureau is the working body that sets the date of parliamentary sessions and their length, submits the numeric and nominal structure of the permanent parliamentary delegations to international bodies to the parliament for approval, prepares and ensures the implementation of the parliament's activities, coordinates the activity of the permanent commissions, works out draft agendas and establishes the structure and the staff of the parliament's apparatus.
