Moldovan opposition creates "anti-Communist front"

The Moldovan parliamentary opposition is forming a common anti-Communist front in the 29 July early election. The Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) said they would coordinate their actions during the campaign at the so-called council for dialogue and cooperation which was set up today. This is to meet their common goal to come to power.

According to the accord signed, the council will comprise nine people and will hold weekly meetings. AMN member Veaceslav Untila was appointed executive secretary.

The leaders of the three parties said that the goal of this common front is to set up a representative and responsible government after 29 July.

"A civilized dialogue between the authorities and the opposition does not mean that we intend to remain in opposition again. These three parties are committed to discussions with the parliamentary opposition after the forthcoming election in a civilized and democratic manner and in line with constitutional norms. It means that these three parties assume responsibility for the future government, said Mihai Ghimpu, leader of the Liberal Party.

The chairmanship of the council for dialogue and cooperation will be held by rotation by the leaders of the three parties. All of its actions will be covered in an information bulletin. The three parties said they are open for cooperation with other democratic parties. The ruling Communist Party has not commented on the creation of the anti-Communist front yet.
