Moldovan government's statement on German-Russian 5 June memorandum
The Moldovan government welcomes the memorandum adopted on 5 June 2010 by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev and voices hope that the political commitment assumed by the leaders of the two states will open up promising prospects in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
The government believes that the document fits into the context of intensification of efforts taken to resolve the Transnistrian issue. Eloquent proofs of this are the discussions between the Moldovan authorities and the international partners involved, as well as the political will expressed in the statement of the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy and the Russian-Ukrainian statement signed on 17 May 2010.
In particular, the government welcomes the willingness of the Russian and German leaders to contribute to the institutionalization of Russia-EU dialogue on foreign policy and security issues, including cooperation in the management of conflicts and crisis situation, to organize joint civilian and military operations in this respect and to make significant progress in the identification of a viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict in the five plus two format.
The Moldovan government expresses interest in close cooperation with all the international actors involved in the process in order to effectively contribute to the consolidation of the principle of indivisibility of the European security, including by overcoming regional conflicts so as to observe the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
