Moldovan foreign ministry recommends limiting travels to Kyrgyzstan
The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) has asked people to abstain from traveling to Kyrgyzstan, unless the situation gets back to normal in this country. MAEIE also said that the Moldovan citizens with permanent or temporary residence in Kyrgyzstan may ask for the ministry's help.
MAEIE said that the Moldovans from Kyrgyzstan may appeal, if necessary, to the ministry's Consular Affairs Department, by dialing 0800 90 990 from Moldova, or +37322 690 990 from abroad.
Moldova is following with concern the violent confrontations taking place in some settlement from southern Kyrgyzstan which claimed numerous lives, and expresses condolences to the families of casualties.
MAEIE also called on all the conflict-stricken communities to abstain from violence, not to become victims of provocations and hostilities. The Moldovan ministry said that it supports efforts undertaken by the international community and OSCE institutions to diminish the tense situation in the region.
In the context of the events from Kyrgyzstan, Moldova aligned with a statement by the Spanish EU Presidency, launched at a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 14 June 2010. Moldova also backed a declaration by the OSCE Permanent Council, approved at a special meeting on the situation in Kyrgyzstan held on 15 June 2010.
