Moldovan foreign minister on visit to Poland
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca today paid a working visit to Warsaw, at the invitation of his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's mass media and public relations directorate has said.
The ministers reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, especially in the context of the actions undertaken by the Moldovan government for the country's European integration. This subject acquires a special connotation, given the prospect of the Polish EU Presidency for the second half of 2011. The sides stressed the importance to turn to account the opportunities given by the Eastern Partnership to achieve Moldova's European integration objectives.
The discussions were focused on ways to give an impetus to the economic cooperation, full turning to account of the present potential of the cooperation between Moldova and Poland.
Radoslaw Sikorski highlighted the extremely positive dynamic of the bilateral relations over the last year. He emphasized the continuous support and promotion by Poland of messages in favour of Moldova's European integration within the EU institutions. The Polish foreign minister stressed that, in the process of negotiation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, Poland will actively back the liberalization of the visa regime for the Moldovan citizens.
The Polish minister highly appreciated the reforms promoted by the Chisinau government. He encouraged the Moldovan authorities to continue the process of Moldova's democratization, including by organizing a referendum and free and fair elections next autumn.
Also, Radoslaw Sikorski informed about the providing of Polish humanitarian assistance worth 100,000 euros to overcome the impact of the floods in Moldova.
At the joint news conference, the ministers reconfirmed the need to continuously maintain and develop the bilateral dialogue by carrying out concrete actions in important areas for both states.
On visit to Warsaw, Iurie Leanca gave an interview to a prestigious Polish publication, Rzeczpospolita.
