Moldovan deputy premier meets Russian deputy foreign minister
Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov today had a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoriy Karasin, the government's communications and press relations department has said.
The sides tackled a string of aspects regarding the prospects for the Transnistrian settlement.
Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov stressed that the international partners boosted their work, and their position became closer to Moldova's one as concerns the state's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"We have a firm position to continue the settlement process, and we speak out for the resumption of the official talks in the 5+2 format," the deputy prime minister said. He emphasized that it is necessary to prepare also a working plan for negotiations, so that the process cannot be ceased because of controversial subjects.
Victor Osipov also referred to the need to settle local problems with the Transnistrian side, including the facilitation of the activity of economic agents from the left bank of Dniestre, free movement of citizens, resumption of the trains' circulation on the Transnistrian segment, re-establishing the fixed phone connection between the citizens from both banks of Dniestre, settling the problem of the Latin-script schools on the territory checked by Tiraspol.
Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov also discussed the issue of the two citizens detained by the Tiraspol security bodies - journalist Ernest Vardanian and Ilie Cazacu. He said that such actions do not improve the image of the Tiraspol authorities, and create a negative background for the Transnistrian settlement process.
For his part, Grigoriy Karasin gave assurances that Russia will further support efforts to resume the full-format negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement, stressing that the task belongs to Chisinau and Tiraspol.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's state secretary positively appreciated the way the present Moldovan government manages the Transnistrian problem settlement process. The Russian official said that the greatest merit is that a degradation of the situation was not allowed.
"The uncertainty cannot last endlessly, it is necessary to move forward," the Russian deputy foreign minister said.
