Moldovan Democratic Party, Communists hold consultations to create ruling alliance

The leaders of the Democratic Party (PDM) and Party of Communists (PCRM) today met at a Chisinau-based hotel to discuss the post-electoral situation. Both Vladimir Voronin and Marian Lupu did not clearly say whether they will form an alliance or not. Yet, the two leaders specified that they did not have divergences within the consultations.

Today, PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin along with MPs Vadim Misin and Oleg Reidman almost two hours discussed at a Chisinau hotel with PDM leader Marian Lupu, PDM honorary chairman Dumitru Diacov and businessman, No 2 on the PDM list Vlad Plahotniuc.

At the end of the meeting, the two leaders of the PCRM and PD said they are just in the phase of consultations. Voronin and Lupu said they have not signed any document which would provide for a ruling alliance, stressing that the discussions will continue. The leaders said they have no divergences in the consultations, as both parties have plans on Moldova's development on the same political segment.

Vladimir Voronin said that the participants in the meeting discussed the post-electoral situation, the ratio of forces and the number of mandates. "We discussed models to overcome the crisis which has been lasting for two years. We debated what we should do at the first parliament meeting, when we should come out with concrete candidacies. There were no serious divergences."

Voronin specified that no generous offers were made for the PDM at the meeting. "One should have a basis in order to ask for something or do something. But no matter what alliance will be, there are no enough votes to elect the president." Voronin said that discussions should be held with the forces which made it to the parliament. Yet, he emphasized that there are no chances to create a wide ruling coalition.

PDM leader Marian Lupu said that the participants in the meeting discussed much the principles of Moldova's development. He said the PCRM members back the country's European vector. "The key word of these discussions was the balance. We had a round of consultations which I describe as constructive, important focused on principles of domestic and foreign policy which suit both the PCRM and the PDM. I do not find out divergences of opinions at this level."

Both sides, the PCRM and the PDM, said that the post-electoral discussions continue.
