Moldovan court acquits ex-defense minister Valeriu Pasat
The Court of Appeal today acquitted Moldovan ex-Defense Minister Valeriu Pasat.
According to Pasat's lawyer, he was cleared of all the charges, namely, the illegal sale of several jet fighters and abuse of authority during the sale of Uragan missile systems.
The prosecutor has told ProTV that he will appeal against this decision at the Supreme Court of Justice.
This is the third time Pasat's case was reconsidered in court. A year ago, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that the case should be reconsidered by the Court of Appeal, saying that procedural errors had been discovered. Earlier, the Court of Appeal declared Pasat non guilty in the case concerning the sale of jet fighters. However, the court sentenced him to five years in prison for abuse of power during the sale of Uragan rocket systems. Subsequently Pasat was pardoned.
Pasat did not attend the court hearing as he has been in Moscow since he left the country after the amnesty.
