Moldovan Communist opposition sues acting President Mihai Ghimpu

The lawyer of the opposition Communist Party, Serghei Sirbu, has sued Moldovan acting President Mihai Ghimpu.

According to the complaint submitted to the Chisinau-based Court of Appeal, Ghimpu rudely violated the law on public associations by issuing a decree to appoint new members of the Commission for Certification under the Justice Ministry. By this decree, Ghimpu allegedly illegally interrupted the mandates of the commission's members, including Serghei Sirbu's, whose mandates run out in 2012. Sirbu asked that the decree, issued in breach of the legislation, is cancelled.

For his part, Ghimpu did not comment on Sirbu's statements, noting that anyone has the right to appeal to courts.
