Moldovan authorities take measures to ensure free voting
Prime Minister Vlad Filat had a meeting with members of the pre-election observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the government's communications and press relations department has said.
The participants in the meeting discussed the pre-election process and the holding of the early parliamentary election due on 28 November 2010.
The head of the delegation, Indrek Saar, said that the PACE mission is in Chisinau to monitor the pre-election process and the 28 November polls.
The officials stressed the importance to organize a fair campaign and voiced hope that the latter will be carried out transparently and democratically. Among the aspects needing more attention, the delegation members listed: ensuring the transparency of parties' financing, monitoring the coverage of the election by the media, preventing the use of administrative resources, as well as preparing the post-electoral processes. The PACE representatives said that the latter will require efficient political dialogue.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat gave assurances that the Moldovan authorities take all the necessary measures to ensure the conditions necessary for all the Moldovan citizens exercise their right to vote.
"To this end, the adjustment of the normative framework was ensured, including the coverage of the electoral campaign by the media, creation of conditions for the voting of Moldovans abroad, as well as for the students from Moldova who study in settlements where they have no residence," the prime minister said.
Vlad Filat said that the PACE delegation s mission is very important for Moldova, just as the other missions of observers, who will help monitor the electoral process fairly.
"We see the progress made in the observance of the right to free expression in Moldova over the last year as one of our most important achievements, which are appreciated by international structures. At the same time, we are firmly sure that it is necessary to rigorously monitor all the election-related processes, including the coverage of the electoral campaign by the media," the prime minister said.
