Moldovan acting president comments on apprehension of Russian journalist
Following the journalists' multiple requests, Acting President, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu has commented on the apprehension of the Russian journalist Eduard Baghirov by the Moldovan law-enforcement bodies.
The commentary says:
"The apprehension of the Russian writer and blogger Eduard Baghirov is within the remit of the law-enforcement bodies. It is unfair to comment on the matter ahead of the investigations in this case, due to be carried out by the relevant bodies. At the same time, those who are directly involved in the probe into this case should be aware of their high responsibility. This means that the apprehension should be reasoned in legal terms in order to avoid any speculations and eventual dissensions on the matter.
Moldova tends to fully meet the criteria of the rule-of-law state, which protects the fundamental human rights and ensures everybody's equality before the law and access to a fair justice. In this very case, attention is paid to the deeds committed by the apprehended person, not to his citizenship, profession or main occupations."
