Moldova-EU association agreement to be negotiated in Chisinau in June
The third round of talks on the Moldova-EU Association Agreement will be held in Chisinau on 7-8 June, Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman told a news conference today.
Gherman said that the preparations for the third round and the Moldova-EU association council were the principal items on the agenda of a last week visit to Brussels by a Moldovan team of negotiators. "Before the third round of negotiations, Moldova will host two European Commission missions. The commissions will check the stage of Moldova's preparation for the launch of talks on the creation of a free trade zone between Moldova and the EU and the phase of implementation of phytosanitary norms. Both missions will be in Moldova on 31 May - 4 June," Gherman said.
The deputy foreign minister also said that a meeting on the prospects for the liberalization of the visa regime was organized at the European Parliament for the first time ever. "Within hearings, Moldova's delegation presented the main reforms carried out to this end. Also, the European Commission referred to the results of an evaluation mission held last March. The EC said that it was ascertained that Moldova is ready for dialogue on the visa regime liberalization, which will start on 15 June 2010," Gherman added.
The deputy minister said that a meeting of the Moldova-EU association council will be held in Luxembourg on 15 June. At the event, Moldova's delegation led by Prime Minister Vlad Filat will start a structured dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime and will set the stages and elements of preparation for starting talks on the creation of the free trade zone.
