Moldova, Ukraine sign documents on bilateral cooperation
Moldova Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko signed a string of documents on bilateral cooperation in Kiev today, the government's press service has said.
The two premiers signed an intergovernmental protocol to amend an agreement on mutual recognition of property rights and regulation of property relations from 11 August 1994.
Also, the sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in youth policies. The signing ceremony was held within a working visit to Kiev by the Moldovan prime minister.
After the ceremony, the prime ministers made press statements, highlighting the importance of the two agreements for boosting the development of interstate ties.
Vlad Filat said that Moldova's new democratic government sees the establishment of strategic partnership relations with Ukraine as a top objective.
The Moldovan prime minister stressed the importance of the symbolical act of starting the demarcation of the central segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border, with the active participation of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).
Yuliya Tymoshenko welcomed the progress made by the sides to demarcate the border. She said this would help foster the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict and the two countries' European aspirations.
The Ukrainian premier said that, for her country, the demarcation of the border with Moldova opens up new prospects in negotiations on the liberalized visa regime with the European Union.
The two prime ministers described the today's meeting as very useful. They stressed that both sides have understanding and willingness to identify solutions to the existing problems in a pragmatic and constructive manner, in the interest of the two countries' citizens.
Also today, Prime Minister Vlad Filat signed in the honorary book of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers.
