Moldova to hold repeated presidential election on 7 December
The Moldovan parliament has set the repeated presidential election for 7 December at 10:00.
At a today's meeting, the parliament set up a special commission for holding the repeated presidential election. The body has the same composition as for the 10 November presidential election: Aurel Baiesu of the Democratic Party, Vitalie Nagacevschi of the Liberal democratic Party, Valeriu Nemerenco of the Liberal Party, Ion Plesca of the Our Modlova Alliance and Communist MPs Iurie Muntean, Vasile Sova and Vladimir Vitiuc.
The presidential seat became vacant after ex-President Vladimir Voronin stepped down on 11 September 2009. The first attempt to elect the head of state failed as the opposition Communist MPs refused to cast their ballots for the ruling alliance's candidate, Marian Lupu. Subsequently, the latter put forward a package of proposals for the Party of Communists to back his candidacy.
