Moldova to build good relations with Russia, Ukraine and Romania
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat visited the Gagauzia autonomous region on Tuesday and stated in Chadyr-Lunga town, in particular, that his Government stands for establishing good partnership relations with the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Romania.
He told the locals that as a result of his contacts with Russia Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the two countries have managed to overcome "many problems that existed in our bilateral relations".
Filat said he is preparing for a visit to Moscow soon, "after which I am sure our relations will start developing at an ever faster pace".
Vlad Filat spoke also for the development of good neighborly relations with both Ukraine and Romania. He said, "Our relations with Ukraine are now pragmatic and understandable. We have established a dialog that was completely absent last several years, and we will be tackling all our problems in the framework of the dialog".
The Premier expressed satisfaction about the normalization of relations with Romania, and called as "cynical" the statements "being heard from some political opponents, claming that all this is leading to unification of the two countries".
"The Republic of Moldova is a sovereign state, and nobody disputes this truth. We stand up for establishing good relations with all countries, including our neighbors", said the Prime Minister.
According to him, European integration is a key priority of his Government's activity, and "The Republic of Moldova is a European nation from both the historical and cultural viewpoints. We are convinced that Moldova will become a full-right member of the European family of nations one day. Our European integration perspective is quite clear, and we shall never miss it".
He spoke out against the proposal worked out in Gagauzia recently - on adopting a new Constitution that would fix federalization of the Republic of Moldova.
The premier voiced regret that some politicians pursue their selfish, mercenary interests that are only leading to a society split.
"The previous authorities only pretended to see no problems existing in Gagauzia. But problems did and do exist, and we shall be solving them jointly with you, within a common state. We all are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and we shall work team-like to make it a modern, law-governed state with high living standards", stressed Vlad Filat.
He also said, "The present-day economic situation is very complicated. And no matter what our opponents are saying, this situation is not indeed a fruit of the last 4 months of our governance. It is a fruit of the bad country governance over last 8 years. When we came into power, we found out that the State Budget deficit was standing at over 8 billion lei. I would like very much to regularly raise salaries to all public sector employees. For this, however, we need to work hard to achieve an economic growth - the only source of raising salaries".
