Moldova: Ruling alliance MP elected leader of non-parliamentary party
The former leader of the parliamentary faction of the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN), Veaceslav Untila, has been elected chairman of the non-parliamentary European Action Movement (MAE), the Moldovan news agency Infotag reported on 25 January.
Untila quit the AMN, one of the four member parties of the ruling Alliance for European Integration, on 12 January following disagreements over leadership with AMN leader Serafim Urechean. Untila was followed by AMN lawmaker Iurie Colesnic and dozens of AMN members.
"Today we are launching a project capable of changing the Moldovan political class. The MAE moves to a new level and becomes a parliamentary party. I believe that Untila should promote our party from the parliamentary rostrum," ex-MAE chairman Anatol Petrencu said.
At the 5 April 2009 parliamentary election, the European Action Movement won 1 per cent of votes jointly with the National Liberal Party and did not participate in the 29 July early parlia! mentary election, Infotag recalled.
Earlier, Infotag quoted Untila as saying that he and MP Iurie Colesnic would remain members of the ruling alliance.
