Moldova, Romania intelligence services resuming cooperation

The heads of the Moldovan and Romanian intelligence services have spoken out for the resumption of the cooperation relations, as well as for planning concrete activities to combat terrorism, cross-border organised crime, trafficking of people, drugs, weaponry, etc.

The agreements were reached during meetings of the director of the Moldovan Security and Information Service (SIS) with the director of Romania's Foreign Intelligence Service, Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu and the head of the Romanian Intelligence Service, George Cristian Maior.

At the meetings, the leaders of the intelligence bodies discussed aspects on the cooperation between the two countries' special services to prevent risks and threats which endanger the national and regional security.

The sides agreed on the need to foster the exchange of information between the intelligence services of the two countries on issues of combating the trans-national threats, as well as on creating conditions meant to optimize the process of counteracting risks which jeopardize the national security of Moldova and Romania, affect the regional and European security climate.

Gheorghe Mihai is on a 17-19 March working visit to Bucharest, following an invitation by the director of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service.
