Moldova ranked the 8th place in a top of ECHR

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has registered more than 64,000 requests in 2011, with 5% more comparing to the previous year. According to a report issued recently by the ECHR, 1,025 requests were handed in against the Republic of Moldova.

Therefore, Moldova is the eighth country after Serbia and Poland with an index of 2.88 requests per 10,000 inhabitants.

According to the Court’s statistics, over 151,600 applications were pending before a judicial formation on January 1, 2012. More than half of these applications had been lodged against one of four countries: Russia, Turkey, Italy and Romania. Moldova is followed by Bulgaria and the United Kingdom.

A number of 592 applications from Moldova were decided during 2011, while in other 42, judgments were delivered. The most judgments, 18, were made on the protection of property, while 8 cases involved inhuman or degrading treatment issues.
