The key goal of resuming the Dniester settlement negotiation is to launch social projects for the population of Moldova's breakaway Dniester region, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister in charge of reintegration issues Victor Osipov told a news conference on Nov. 3.

Osipov said that the main task pursued by Moldova's new authorities is to resolve, to a maximum possible extent, numerous problems faced by the Dniester region (aka Transnistria).

"The 6 November meeting in Vienna [due to be attended by Moldovan, Dniester, Russian, Ukrainian, OSCE, EU and US representatives] will focus on developing Moldovan-Dniester cooperation in infrastructure, environment protection, healthcare, trade and other sectors. For instance, eight Dniester transport corporations face problems while crossing the Ukrainian border. So, it is necessary to implement a policy that would help Dniester companies," Osipov said.

The deputy prime minister said it was necessary to resume political talks on a special legal status for the Dniester region, for which the sides should offer their ideas.

Osipov also said that Moldova is considering Tiraspol's recent proposal, backed by Moscow, to organize regular meetings between the representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol in a one plus one format.

He also said that a consultative meeting would be organized soon with foreign diplomats accredited in Chisinau in order to work out a general policy in relations with the Dniester region. In particular, Osipov said he wanted to prevent a repetition of situations similar to the one when Russia opened its consular office in Tiraspol without Chisinau's consent.
