Moldova has had a better diplomacy in 2011
By Valeriu Gonta/ Chisinau/ Moldova.ORG/ -- Despite of the complicated international context, the Government of Moldova has benefited from the co-operation opportunities with the foreign partners. The multidimensional co-operation with the European Union was among the priorities of the Foreign Policy of the government.
“We have made significant achievements. The negotiations on the Association Agreement have advanced, important chapters being closed. Actually, Moldova has implemented the legal framework of the first round of negotiations regarding to the free-visa travel regime with the EU. Shortly, the European Commission and the Council of the EU will decide on the official switch to the second round of actions,” informs the Government of Moldova in the report about the achievements gained betweenJanuary 2011 and January 2012.
Moldova has intensified its bilateral relations with its neighbors Romania and Ukraine. It has also strengthened the strategic dialogue with the United States, having official visits from the US such as Joe Biden and John McCain. According to the report, the Moldova-Russia relations were good, as well.
“In the relations with Russia we could maintain a constant political dialogue based on mutual interest,” shows the report. “We will keep our efforts to developing the bilateral relations, starting from the fact that Russia continues to be an important foreign partner and a great player in the international system,” added Vlad Filat, the Prime-minister of Moldova.
Moldova has strengthened its relations with Sweden, Norway and Finland. Sweden will offer a grant of 52 million euro during 2011-2014. Other important achievements of the Moldovan Government are related to the removal of the visa fee for Israel, the issuance of the IDs and biometric passports within the embassies and consulates of Moldova from aboard.
The strategic objective of 2012 will be the total implementation of the Action Plan Moldova-EU on the visa-free travel regime. Referring to the Transnistrian conflict, the Government said that a great achievement in this field was the revival of the formal bargaining in “5+2 format.”
