Moldova extends procedure of issuing IDs to Dniester residents
The procedure of issuing Moldovan identity cards to Dniester residents will be expanded starting from 1 January 2010.
It is for the first time ever that the cabinet extended this procedure for an indefinite period. The decision is aimed at facilitating the procedure of issuing documents to Dniester residents, including by covering the spending for it from the state budget, and was taken in the context of the policy of backing the population.
So far, 115,000 Dniester residents have benefited from this procedure.
The total number of Moldovan citizens in the Dniester region stands at 260,000, which represents the majority of the population in the region.
