Moldova: Criminal investigation against top police officials completed
Prosecutors today announced the final charges against ex-Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc and the ex-commissioner general of Chisinau, Gen Vladimir Botnari. They are accused of negligence which resulted in the death of Valeriu Boboc in the wake of the riots from 7 April 2009 and other serious consequences.
The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office said that next week, the criminal investigation materials will be passed to the defendants. This is the last criminal procedure before the file is sent to court.
The prosecutors have officially informed the two former officials, as well as their lawyers about the completion of the inquiry.
On 3 March 2010, prosecutors prohibited Gheorghe Papuc and Vladimir Botnari from leaving Moldova as preventive measure.
