Moldova: A.Stoyanoglo, a Gagauz, new deputy speaker of Parliament
The Moldovan Parliament today appointed MP Alexander Stoyanoglo of the Democratic Party as a new Deputy Speaker. Supported by 53 votes of the majority Alliance for European Integration, he has thus filled the vacancy that appeared after his predecessor at this post, Marcel Raducan, had been appointed Minister of Construction and Regional Development on Sept. 25.
Presenting Stoyanoglo to the forum, the Democratic Party faction said "it would be correct to have the Deputy Speaker's post filled by a representative of one of Moldova's ethnic minorities - the Gagauz people."
So, there is only one post remaining vacant in the deputy speaker corps of 4. It has been reserved for the Communists, who are now in the opposition are keep refusing to nominate their candidate. The Communist faction refused to hold consultations with Speaker Mihai Ghimpu - a mandatory procedure that must precede the voting for a Deputy Speaker.
