Moldova and Transnistria are called on organizing joint memorial events
Jan Plešinger, the acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Chisinau called on the authorities on both banks of the Nistru River to organize joint memorial events on March 2, 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Transnistrian conflict, informs OSCE Mission to Moldova in a press release.
“Plešinger recalled the joint address signed last Thursday, February 16, by representatives of OSCE, Russia and Ukraine to the Joint Control Commission – a supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. In the address, the representatives proposed to the authorities on all levels to hold joint commemorative events to mark the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of March 1992,” according to the OSCE statement made public today.
“Coming together to remember the dead would help strengthen the dialogue and trust among people across the river and would contribute to reconciliation,” said Mr. Plešinger.
Officials of the OSCE, Russia and Ukraine also called on the parts involved to exchange information on events which are expected to be held and show mutual respect to avoid potential aggravation of the situation in the Security Zone.
“This would set an example for the new generations in preventing such tragedies in the future,” added Mr. Plešinger.
