Moldova and the UN – 20 years of co-operation
The Republic of Moldova and the United Nations marked 20 years of Moldova’s membership within the largest international community of states. In a joint press conference, Kaarina Immonen, the UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova and Iurie Leanca, the Moldovan Foreign Minister made a briefing on those 20 years of co-operation between sides.
“We have worked closely with our national partners to ensure a better life for the Moldovan people and help the country fulfill its development goals. Our assistance has expanded over years to cover a wide range of activities – from electoral support, empowering women, health and education services to addressing the consequences of natural disasters, creating partnerships with the private sector, and promoting justice and human rights for everyone in Moldova. The UN has a key role in helping Moldova deliver on its ambitions towards European integration”, said Kaarina Immonen.
The Moldovan Foreign Minister thanked the United Nations for its support to the country’s development agenda and emphasized some of the most important programs initiated by the UN in Moldova.
“In those 20 years since we have joined the great family of the United Nations, the Republic of Moldova has demonstrated that it is a responsible partner for the international community, fact demonstrated by the multi-dimensional co-operation which we have had within the UN,” said Iurie Leanca.
At the conference was presented the publication „ Republic of Moldova: Two Decades in the Large United Nations Family” which was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration with the United Nations’ support.
