Mihai Ghimpu: Moldovan parliamentary elections to be conducted if constitution stays unchanged
Acting President and Parliamentary speaker Mihai Ghimpu has said that early parliamentary elections will be conducted but only on conditions that present constitutional rule remains unchanged.
Ghimpu said in a press conference that "citizens had voted for 4-year parliament" and he is tired to answer questions about legislature's dissolving date. "I am guided by constitutional regulations. We can not dissolve the parliament while we know that early parliamentary elections will not help the country to go through constitutional crisis, if we fail to change the Constitution by means of referendum. The legislation provides me with a reasonable term depending of political situation and this year problems. Would not be better for us to go through the constitutional crisis, and after that to conduct early elections? The present Constitution says that parliament must be dissolved, but we do not know what tomorrow will bring, with this sun, floods", Ghimpu said. He said he will soon visit Belarus to discuss regional problems, the Euronest, economical bilateral relationships between Chisinau and Minsk, also parliamentary cooperation.
