Mihai Ghimpu considers Russian ban on Moldovan wine is related to autumn elections
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu has said that Russia's ban on Moldovan wine imports can be explained by forthcoming elections.
In a press conference at Purcari winery on Friday, Ghimpu said he regrets that European partners and his colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) did not support the idea of adopting new Constitutional amendments on direct presidential elections by 51 votes.
"In this case we had no wine crisis, no Plahotniuc-Mocanu scandal. As I understood, wine problem is related to autumn events. Because of elections, all investors are waiting, and refuse investing in Moldova", Ghimpu said.
He said he will first visit some wineries to familiarize with its selling and producing problems, after that he will make a proposal regarding European standards.
"From observed in Purcari we can make a conclusion that we are able to upgrade our production process and to approximate it to wine producing states where 60-70% of produced wine is consumed in domestic market", acting President Mihai Ghimpu said.
