Liberal MP blames Duma for interference into Moldova's affairs

The Russian State Duma [the lower chamber of the Russian Federation's bicameral legislative assembly] interfered into Moldova's domestic affairs by issuing a Statement condemning Acting President Mihai Ghimpu's decree concerning June 28, presumes Corina Fusu, deputy leader of the parliamentary Liberal faction and Chairwoman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for Culture, Sciences, Education, Youth Affairs and the Mass Media.

On Friday, she asked floor in parliament, saying she wanted to make a statement concerning the light memory of Stefan cel Mare, Moldova's outstanding medieval Gospodar [King], who passed away 506 years ago today. However, Corina Fusu abandoned the Stefan topic very soon, and concentrated on "Duma's insulting reaction to Mr. Ghimpu's decree" [Ghimpu is her Liberal Party leader].

"The Duma's gesture was unfriendly and unacceptable in relations between two sovereign states. This is an impermissible interference into our internal affairs and an attempt to destabilize us", she stressed, and called all AEI members to undersign her statement.

Democratic Party Honorable Chairman Dumitru Diacov reacted negatively to the Liberals' idea, and accused them of speculating with history. He said that "everyone in this room certainly loves Stefan cel Mare, who was a wise politician who waged a well-balanced policy with respect to all neighbors, including Russia, and his daughter even married Russia's crown prince, but Mrs. Fusu abuses Stefan cel Mare's name to further rock the boat".

In reply, Acting President Mihai Ghimpu thanked God that Stefan cel Mare did not hear Diacov's words.

Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu thinks the Liberal Party's position brings harm to Moldova, both in the East and West. He said, "Russians say their country chronically faces only 2 real problems - fools and roads. Moldova seems to have more, and our problems are generated in parliament. We must conduct a wise and weighted policy, instead of doing a rough, stupid work".

And First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Moldova Noastra Alliance leader Serafim Urechean remarked the today's statement by the Liberals was an impromptu, like was the Ghimpu decree.
