Leader of Transnistria changed his mind
Evgheny Shevchuk, the head of Transnistria has recently stated on a TV show that he is not willing to talk about the change of the military peacekeeping mission into a civil peacekeeping mission. He is supposed to meet between February 28-29 in Dublin with the mediators and observers within the negotiation format “5+2.” He has previously showed his openness towards this issue.
“The peacekeepers are the basic element in assuring the security in the region. The Transnistrian side advocates in favor of maintaining the current peacekeeping mission; its change is possible only with the joint agreement of all parts involved,” said Schevchuk.
“5+2” negotiation format gathers the parties involved in the conflict, mediators and observers – Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russian Federation, Ukraine, the USA and the EU.
