Leader of Moldovan Liberal Democratic Party says chances to revive Alliance for European Integration are good
"The chances to revive the Alliance for European Integration are very good," the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Vlad Filat said today after a meeting with the leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu.
Filat said that these days he was going to meet the representatives of the Party of Communists (PD). Filat had a meeting with the leaders of the Democratic Party (PD) on 2 December, where he discussed the principles that would lay the foundation for the future government.
The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party said that the chances to create a coalition of non-communist parties were good, as "it is necessary to observe the position of over 60 per cent of the voters." "They voted for the further implementation of the actions pursued during the government of the Alliance for European Integration," Filat said.
The two leaders met at the state residency. Filat said that it belongs both to the president and to the premier. When Vlad Filat left, Mihai Ghimpu has told journalists that "The Liberal Party will also govern the country. Without the PL there would be no reforms in Moldova."
The leaders pointed out that they had not discussed state offices, but principles, values and Moldova's European future. "If we come to power, we will not take responsibility while someone else governs. Moldova has no prospects without the Alliance for European Integration. This is the citizens' choice," Ghimpu said. For his part, Filat announced that the talks would start next week.
Referring to the formation of a large coalition, Filat said that "we haven't discussed it yet," while Ghimpu rejected this possibility. He noted that "by forming a large coalition we bring the Communists back to power."
