Joint declaration on strategic partnership for Moldova's EU integration signed in Romania

Moldovan acting President Mihai Ghimpu, on a visit to Romania, and Romanian President Traian Basescu signed a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic bilateral partnership for Moldova's European integration today in Bucharest, a MOLDPRES special corerspondent has reported from Bucharest.

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said that the Moldovan-Romanian relations have been flourishing lately. He said that the Lipcani-Radauti bridge was inaugurated and an agreement on small-distance cross-border movement was signed in just several months. But the most important thing for us is the signing of the joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between Romania and Moldova for Moldova's integration into EU, Ghimpu said.

"This document will allow us signing similar acts with other EU member states, which could support Moldova in the integration process," Ghimpu said.

Traian Basescu said that, under this document, Romania will provide assistance to Moldova in the European integration process. Romania will give technical support to adjust Moldova's legislation to the EU acquis and the acts will no longer need to be translated. The declaration will allow extending cooperation between the two countries, the Romanian president emphasized.

Also, the two presidents discussed Moldovans' problems as regards the 500 euros which they have to present to get entry visas for Romania. Basescu specified that he took notice of the Moldovan president's request and will look for acceptable solutions for the Moldovan citizens. For his part, President Ghimpu said that the TV channel TVR will be transmitted in Moldova next autumn.
