Interior Ministry denies police is to blame for protester's death
The spokeswoman of the Moldovan Interior Ministry, Ala Meleca, has denied media reports blaming the police for the death of a participant in the April 7 mass riots in Chisinau.
Meleca has told Infotag that the Interior Ministry has information about the death of the 23-year-old resident of Bacioi village, Valeriu Boboc. "However, this does not mean that he died because of some reasons related to the protest rallies," she said.
"According to a forensic examination, the young man has died after being poisoned with gas. An investigation is currently under way," Meleca said.
Meleca denied statements by the opposition according to which the "young man died after being severely beaten up by police". Statements to this effect were made by Chisinau mayor and opposition politician Dorin Chirtoaca during the 12 April protest rally in Chisinau.
Earlier, it was reported that Boboc died after being beaten up during or after the protests. Valeriu Boboc was married and has a one-and-a-half year old baby.
