Incident in disputed village proves inefficiency of peacekeeping mechanism in Transnistria
The leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM), Vladimir Voronin, today told a news conference that the PCRM was opened for dialogue, but not in the present parliament. Voronin also said that 78 Article of the constitution on the presidential election procedure should be amended only after early parliamentary elections.
Voronin said that the referendum had showed to everybody, including to international bodies, what the Moldovan people's wish is. "Moldova finally woke up and people showed political maturity and responsibility. This is a priceless thing, no matter who will rule the country."
The Communist leader said that the PCRM was open for dialogue with all political forces and that the two draft laws put forward by the Party of Communists and the Alliance for European Integration, and approved by the Constitutional Court, would be a viable solution to the ongoing political crisis.
"We suggested avoiding expenses for the referendum because people's position was clear. Moreover, the president of the Constitutional Court, Dumitru Pulbere said that after an agreement reached in the parliament, it would not be necessary to wait six months," Voronin said.
The PCRM leader said that the only solution now is for the authorities to return to the constitutional framework. "We insist on the dissolution of the parliament. After that, we should have a calm discussion."
Voronin admitted that he did not expect such a low voter turnout. He expressed content with the Central Electoral Commission's activity, saying that despite some infringements, the members of the commission succeeded in fulfilling their duty. "Now, even the administrative resources of the present government did not help them to win, not to mention the fact that according to some data, 61 per cent of the voters were public servants," Voronin said.
