Governmental commission starts drafting strategy for Moldova's reintegration

The first meeting of the governmental commission for reintegration was held in Chisinau. The participants in the event decided to start drafting a strategy for Moldova's reintegration.

After the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said that another two subjects discussed at the event were the present situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, as well as the Transnistrian settlement documents signed since 1992.

"We spoke about the situation in the security zone which is a continuous reason for concern for Moldova's authorities," the deputy prime minister said. "We are absolutely aware and convinced that we should thoroughly approach the situation in this region," Eugen Carpov stressed.

The official said that the first round of informal talks in the 5+2 format is to take place in Vienna in early April 2011. The Moldovan side insisted that one of the subjects on the agenda refers to the resumption of official negotiations.

Eugen Carpov emphasized that the arrests and detentions operated by the Transnistrian authorities became more frequent last March. "This is another proof that the situation in the security zone is not positive, the present mechanisms do not function just as it was stipulated, and we should think together how to optimize the peacekeeping operation," the deputy prime minister added.
