Glove major clue in deaths of woman, son
Investigators say that a military glove found in the home of a slain Florida woman links a former sergeant at MacDill Air Force Base to the crime scene.
Paula O'Connor was strangled and her 15-month-old son, Alijah, strangled or smothered in St. Petersburg in July 2007. Ralph Daniel Wright Jr., who was allegedly Alijah's father, is charged with the killings, The Tampa Tribune reported Wednesday.
Wright was arrested last week. He had already lost his military job when the Air Force did not renew his contract after he became a suspect in the double homicide.
In an affidavit released Tuesday, investigators said that the glove was made of Nomex, a high-tech Dupont fiber, and could have come from a shipment of gloves sent to MacDill by a Rochester military contractor in February 2007.
The affidavit also said that Wright had access to the locked storeroom where the gloves were kept.
Wright allegedly decided to kill O'Connor and Alijah because he did not want to pay child support and she was threatening his marriage and military career.
