Germany’s Angela Merkel to visit Moldova

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Moldova in August this year, the Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat said today in a press statement. The Premier met the German official in Brussels these days where he participated at the European People’s Party Summit. He launched an invitation to her.

“I have invited Ms. Angela Merkel, the Federal Chancellor of Germany to visit the Republic of Moldova and she accepted the invitation. Her visit will take place this summer. This will be the first visit of a German Chancellor to the Republic of Moldova,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat said.

He also mentioned that early today was signed a command to start the preparations for this important visit. The exact day of the visit will be announced later after consultations between the counterpart ministries of the countries will be held.

Germany was among the first EU countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Moldova after it gained its independence from the Soviet Union in August 1991. The Federal Republic of Germany is a sustainable and supportive partner of Moldova. Germany has an Embassy in Chisinau. Moldova has an Embassy in Germany’s capital of Berlin, as well as a General Consulate in Frankfurt am Main.
