Germany has a new Ambassador in Moldova
Germany has a new Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. President Nicolae Timofti received today the accreditation letters from Matthias Meyer, the new German diplomat.
As the Moldovan Presidency reported, the Head of State expressed his confidence that His Excellency Matthias Meyer will contribute bolstering the Moldovan-German relations, helping Moldova to get closer to the European Union and participate in the Transnistrian conflict resolution.
The appointment of a new Ambassador comes a day ahead of a historic visit to Moldova of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.The Moldovan Head of State qualified this event as significant.
According to a press release, the German Ambassador said that Moldova is seen as a country with European perspectives and Germany supports their European integration efforts.
Mr. Meyer expressed his confidence that real progress in terms of the Transnistrian conflict settlement can be seen in the near future.
Formerly Matthias Meyer was Germany’s Ambassador to Libya. He has gained a lot of experience in the Islamic countries as well as in the regions with political crisis.
The former German Ambassador to Moldova Berthold Johannes served in the German Embassy in Chisinau since June 2010.
