Germany and Poland to Russia: Give up on Transnistria

Mariana Puzderi/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ --Foreign ministers of Germany and Poland have sent a message to Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister at the meeting that they had in the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad situated between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea: Russia should abandon supporting the Transnistrian Separatist Republic, if it wants a good relationship with the West.

"We start from the premise that the Russian Federation wants good cooperation with the West. Until this is put in practice, we Russia will cooperate in the format Russia - EU, "said Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, quoted by Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, taken by UNIMEDIA.

Radoslaw Sikorski and German Minister Guido Westerwelle tried to persuade Lavrov that Moscow should stop supporting the regime in Tiraspol, Newsln reports.

Germany is considered the main partner of Russia in the European Union, both economically and diplomatically. During the war of summer 2008, when Russia invaded Georgia,the German word has weighed heavily in the Russian military offensive appeasement. Poland will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Hungary on July 1.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Iurie Leanca, attended as special guest at Bydgoszcz, Poland, another meeting of heads of diplomats from Poland, Germany and France. Leanca appreciated the growing role of the European Union in the settlement of the transnistrean conflict. In the same context, they discussed  rospects for resuming formal negotiations in the 5 +2 format to solve the conflict. This form of negotiation involves Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Transdniestria, OSCE, European Union
and the United States. Negotiations are blocked for several years.
