Final decision on Moldova's ruling coalition to be taken on 30 December
"We have advanced, and did it seriously. We will tell you more on 30 December. I hope that little time is left until a coalition is given the final touches. The details that have not been discussed yet will be settled soon. I am confident that we will manage to elect the parliament speaker tomorrow and to unblock the current situation," the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Vlad Filat, said this evening after talks with the leaders of the Democratic Party (PD) and Liberal Party (PL).
For his part, PD leader Marian Lupu said that "we cannot dot the i's yet, the discussions continue. The discussions have advanced, but have not been completed. They should continue and will continue at the level of experts this evening. Let's wait until tomorrow and we shall see whether we have a coalition or whether the parliament speaker will be elected." Lupu did not deny the fact that the Democrats will meet the Communists for coalition talks. Yet, he noted that the PD Council will take a final decision at a meeting on 30 December at 12:00.
PL leader Mihai Ghimpu was confident that the fate of the centre-right alliance is almost decided. "On 30 December, we will meet again before the parliament's plenary meeting. There will be an alliance, but we shall see whether we have justice. If things continue the way it was this evening, it is almost certain that we will have an alliance," Ghimpu added.
