Expert: Moldova's risks if signs a Free Trade Agreement with EU
By Larisa Muntean/ Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- Moldova is not prepared to sign a Free Trade Agreement with the EU, considers IDIS Viitorul expert, Alexandru Fala. He noted that there are too many areas could not meet European norms.
"In the short term, this agreement is a risk to certain sectors of the economy, for example, agri-food sector", says the expert and recommends Moldovan negotiators to insist on a gradual transition to a liberalized trade regime with the EU.
"In addition, reducing tariffs to ensure bilateral free movement of goods between Moldova and the EU will be required to adjust to European national standards in several segments, as phyto-sanitary requirements for goods, services and investment, competition issues , public procurement ", said Fala.
On the other hand, experts say that Moldova will benefit long term if it will conscientiously make "homework" and promote reforms.
Earlier this week, EU Foreign Affairs Council adopted the mandate for negotiations with Moldova on the creation of a Free Trade Zone, thorough and comprehensive.
