European Parliamentarian calls on Moldovans to not believe external promises

Alfreds Rubics of Latvia, a member of the United Left group in the European Parliament, has called upon Moldova citizens to not be so naЇve and not believe to promises of foreign assistance.

He told a news conference here today that during the meetings the United Left group delegation held in Chisinau this week, the guests could hear many a time that it would be very desirable to bring Moldova into NATO the sooner the better, because the membership will allegedly bring 180 thousand new jobs to Moldovans.

"Don't believe in such promises. You will have to do everything yourselves - and at your own expense", he said.

Rubics referred to his native country's experience of European integration and accession to NATO, and stated that if only Moldova joins the North Atlantic Alliance, the block will quickly become 'a master of the house' in Moldova. He also said the European Union, too, never gives anything just for nothing - free of charge.
