EU will not support an alliance between democratic party and communist party - Mihai Ghimpu

"An alliance between the Democratic Party of Moldova (DPM) and the Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) is impossible, because the European Union will not support it", acting President Mihai Ghimpu said.

In an interview with Jurnal TV on Thursday night, Ghimpu that such an alliance would be convenient to the Kremlin to not allow Moldova to develop, because "the Republic of Moldova - is the poorest country in Europe thanks to Russia".

"If a left-center coalition were desirable, then the DPM and the MCP would have made such an alliance a long time ago. These parties have the 61 votes necessary to elect a President and to govern the country", Ghimpu said.

Infotag's dossier: Political analyst Petru Bogatu said recently in one of his commentaries that democrats' leader Marian Lupu is a kind of Viktor Yanukovych [Ukrainian President] in Moldova that is able to create a union of democrats and communists as the left front. Bogatu supposes that during his last week visit to Moscow, Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin discussed with Russian officials the possibility of quitting the MCP leadership because Lupu will not agree to make an alliance with his ex-boss.
