EU to monitor the enforcement of Equality of Chances Bill

Ms Catherine ASHTON, EU High Representative

The EU and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton welcome the passage of the Law Ensuring Equality of Chances. The statement was given by Ms. Ashton’s spokesperson, Maja Kocijančič to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty newsroom of Moldova.

“We will monitor the implementation of this law within the current framework of the EU-Moldova dialogue,” Ms. Kocijančič said.

According to her, such a bill is a positive step forward to assuring tolerance and equality of all people from the Republic of Moldova.

“As much as concerns the action plan on visa liberalization, from our perspective, the enactment of a thorough legislation against discrimination (which doesn’t mean just a law, it gets deeper), is the scale for passing the first phase,” the spokesperson added.

“The most important thing for us is the respect and fight for tolerance and human rights,” concluded Maja Kocijančič .

The Law Ensuring Equality of Chances, known also as the Anti-Discrimination Bill, was voted yesterday by the Moldovan Parliament.
