Electoral debates at Teleradio-Moldova to start March 9

The electoral debates at Teleradio-Moldova will start on March 9, in accordance with the strategy for covering the election campaign for the April 5 legislative elections on the public broadcaster approved by the company’s Observers Board.

The Board also approved the tariffs on electoral publicity. A minute of publicity on the public television costs 450 euros, while on public radio - 80 euros. Every candidate will benefit from paid airtime for at least 120 minutes on the TV and radio. An electoral spot should not exceed 2 minutes a day on TV and 2 minutes a day on radio.

The strategy also says that there will be three programs of electoral debates at Teleradio-Moldova every day - 19.45, 21.40 and 22.30 on TV and 08.00, 11.00 and 17.00 on radio. The programs will last for 30 minutes and will be attended by 2-3 election runners.

The candidates must file applications for participation until March 5. They will be invited to the debates at least 12 hours before the start of the program. The draw will be held on March 6, starting at 10.30.

Last week, the Democratic Party demanded that the public television should provide free airtime to election contenders because it is financed from the budget, from the money of all the taxpayers. According to the party’s leader Dumitru Diacov, given that the political parties are not financed from the budget, while the legislative elections are an event of national importance, the public television should provide airtime free of charge.
