Czechs extradite terror suspect to U.S.

The Czech Republic Tuesday extradited a Lebanese man with Swedish citizenship to the United States to face charges of aiding Islamic terrorists.

Oussama Kassir, whose age was given as 31 or 41 in local reports, has been in Czech custody since December 2005. The United States had issued an international Interpol arrest warrant for him for alleged participation in setting up terror training camps in rural Oregon.

Kassir was arrested at the Prague airport while changing planes on a flight from Stockholm to Beirut, Sweden's The Local newspaper reported.

Czech Justice Minister Jiri Pospisil authorized the extradition last week after courts ruled it didn't violate any elements of the two countries' bilateral extradition agreement.

The newspaper said the Swedish embassy in Prague had been notified of the move, and there was no report of a protest.  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
