Current EU presidency isn’t informed about Transnistria
By Valeriu Gonta / Chisinau / Moldova.org / -- Denmark doesn’t know too much about the frozen conflict which borders the European Union. Speaking to the journalists, the Danish Foreign Minister Villy Soevndal said that he isn’t too informed about the conflict in Transnistria, writes DPA agency, cited by EuropeOnline Magazine.
“I am sorry, I don’t know so much about that,” answered the Danish official.
Denmark holds the European Union presidency as of January 1. According to the agency, Mr. Soevndal has been in office since October 2011. Under the arrangements brought in by the Lisbon Treaty, he will not chair EU foreign ministers‘meetings, but will informally assist the work of the EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
Transnistria is a breakaway region of the Republic of Moldova which went apart after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. There have recently been unrests due to a tragic incident where an 18-year-old boy was shot by the Russian peacekeepers deployed in Transnistria.
